If you have not seen this site before, it might be useful. It has recently been released and contains a search facility for 230,000 British Empire soldiers who made wills & in some cases wrote ‘last letters’ to their families. Thanks go to Sylvia for pointing this out to me.
The Family Recorder has an interesting article about the amount of official documentation our ancestors actually needed manage their lives. I think it explains some of the stone walls that we hit from time to time – I’m sure we all have come across ancestors who left very little trace of themselves in official records.
